Wedding Morning Tips

hannah hennessy

If you haven’t been a part of a wedding morning before it can leave you wondering how it’s all meant to work.

Your morning is what you make it and it sets you up for the whole day (no pressure 😜) .. I’ve popped a few pointers below which might help ✨

Wedding Day Eve

Round up your wedding day essentials and keep everything together to save you rushing around in the morning.

Ensure that there's a mirror, table and fairly good lighting for hair and makeup for the morning.

Hang up your wedding outfit along with your bridal party outfits to allow them to air and for any creasing to drop out. If you need to steam, now's the time to do it.

Make sure you and your bridal party have a button up top ready to wear in the morning or something easy to take off around your hair styling.

Pack snacks so that if you don’t fancy a big breakfast you have emergency supplies to eat throughout the wedding morning.

Try to stay off your phone. Enjoy these last moments of being a MISS!

Get some ZZZ. Take a bath, read a book, and indulge in something that’s just for you to help you relax. Letting your body rest is important for your beauty regime tomorrow but also for your overall well being so be sure to switch off and relax - you deserve it!

Wedding Morning

Adrenalin will be running high, so take a moment on your own. Deep breathing, Yoga, going for a run, having a lay in - whatever you want to do just do it if you know it will make you feel good

Try and squeeze a bite to eat to settle your stomach. Porridge is always a winner and it keeps you full for ages.

Have a schedule, I swear by this. If everybody knows where they’re supposed to be then you can limit the chaos. A time schedule is something I create for all my weddings, it’s helps to have something to stick to.

Consider doing gifts/cards before your makeup application.

Music or no music do what’s good for you! If musics your thing then pop on your favourite feel good playlist!

Avoid being on your phone, the morning really does go past in a flash! Assign a bridesmaid as an emergency contact to deal with any potential mishaps on the morning of the wedding.

Have your bubbles at the ready once you’ve finished hair and makeup !

Wedding Hair Inspiration

hannah hennessy

I have scrolled through the archives to show you what my favourite hair styles have been over the past few years.

Starting off with this magnificent pony tail. This lovely lady had fabulously thick hair, but fear not if your hair is finer then clip in extensions can help you achieve this look. This location was also at one of my favourites; the gorgeous Came House in Dorset.

Oh Rachael’s natural hair was a dream. She wanted to keep her hair as natural as possible. We added clip in hair extensions to add more volume and texture and curled her hair in all different sizes of curling tong. She paired it with a delightful Eden.b crown (not pictured).

Boho Bride Emma. Creating extreme lengths and waves with milk and blush hair extensions. Boho braids and floral crowns. I adored this brief. Married at The Dreys in Sittingbourne, Kent.

Who doesn’t love a braided textured bun! A much loved bridesmaid number - I do plenty every year and each one is always a little bit different. Love it!

A classic. Half up half down. A bridal favourite and also loved by bridesmaids. Pro tip - if your hair doesn’t hold a curl you will need a few clip in hair extensions to help give the style lasting power and structure.

Your Bridal Hair & Makeup Trial

hannah hennessy

We are here already! If your a 2024 bride then this is your year. I have been booking my brides in for their trials this week and it’s got me back in the zone of all things weddings and I’m SO excited about this year already.

If your one of my brides this year I wanted to list a few tips on how to prepare for your trial:

Pre Trial

  • Get pinning on Pinterest. Don’t go wild and try to stick to a handful of images. Remember that many images these days are photoshopped or edited. So take it all with a pinch of salt. Your Pinterest will give me an idea of what you’re envisioning. Include a photo of your dress if you can.

  • If you’re thinking of having a spray tan on your wedding day then have one for your trial too.

  • Bridesmaids and guests: if they are booked in for their hair and makeup too then discuss with them and get some images of what they would like. Being prepared for the morning is very important and ensures we can keep to a schedule.

  • Complete your consultation card, I send this to you via email and it is attached to your booking confirmation.

  • Have a think about if your hair style needs hair extensions, you can rent these from me and we can colour match you at your trial.

  • Book a meal or a date night for after your trial - don’t let all that beautiful hair and makeup go to waste!

The day of your trial

  • Have your makeup bag ready. A little insight to your favourite products and your makeup routine can give me a good starting point when planning your makeup.

  • Have your veil or hair accessories with you.

  • Wear something the same colour as your outfit. Makeup can look different against different colours.

  • Have a makeup free face but have some images of yourself with your usual makeup style handy so that whatever we create, it still looks like you!

  • Washing your hair the evening before your trial usually works best, but at this stage you know your hair better than me so please do what feels comfortable for your hair type.

  • Your trial typically takes 2-3 hours and isn’t a rushed process. I make notes throughout the session and take lots of photos for reference.

  • I am predominantly mobile and therefore I come to your home for your trial. If this isn’t suitable then we can discuss other options.

  • Your trial is meant to be fun! Enjoy every bit of it and ask as many questions as you need. Make sure you’re happy with everything you have discussed and trialled before leaving.

Wedding Hair Styles: Up-Do

hannah hennessy

Modern Bridal Up-Do

There are many variations of an up do! Recently there has been plenty of texture and a much more modern approach to bridal hair.

When choosing a style there’s plenty of things to think about:

• Your hair type - think about your natural texture, do you have fine or thick hair? Natural curly or poker straight? Your wedding hair stylist will be able to talk to you about your options and what style would be best suited to ensure it lasts from ceremony until the dance floor.

• If you have short or fine hair you could discuss adding a few wefts of hair extensions to bulk out the style.

• Equally if you have long thick hair you may want to think about having it cut to take some of the weight out.

• Hair accessories and veils - think about if you want to add fresh flowers or a crown to your bridal look or if your wearing a veil we will need to discuss placement/if you plan to remove your veil at some point during the day.

• Front Pieces and face framing - one of the main things to think about is how you want it to look from the front. Do you want it all swept back, do you have bangs or a side fringe? At the trial we can get this perfect by testing out the different options.

• If your wearing earrings or n your wedding day then bring them to your trial - it helps to bring things together as you can often get a better idea of how everything works.

• Think about the texture and height of the style - having a photo of your dress or outfit can sometimes help with this. You may want to offset the style of dress with your hair or keep it all coherent.

The Bridal Pony

hannah hennessy

I can sense a trend coming … Bridal Ponytails! And I’m here for it.

Is 2022 the year of the pony?

Modern, sleek, textured, relaxed or a boho vibe there’s plenty of ways a ponytail can be styled.

Perfect for those of you who wear you hair in a pony tail everyday/is your go to style.

Staying true to yourself and not straying to far from what you normally do is the ultimate bridal decision.

Keep the hair off your neck and out of your face on those hot summer weddings!

I recently helped Erin with her vision of a bridal pony tail.

Erin - Eastwell Manor Bride 2022.

Makeup - Nina Gregory

Erin had a lot of hair and so there was no need for extensions. With hair that isn’t as thick but needs extra oomph for that pony tail projection I would always suggest working with a few wefts of extensions. Hair extensions hold a curl and can ensure that your style lasts all night.

Adding a braid is a nice way to add texture.

A low plaited ponytail, you can add fresh flowers too!

A little round up of 2021

hannah hennessy

WELL DONE! We made it! Phew!

Not sure about you but i am exhausted!! Though i am grateful for the Christmas break. Were on day 7 and only 2 of those days have i actually ventured out of my pjs :-) blissful. I’ve managed to piece my brain back together (hence the blog post, the last one was March, whoops!) and I’m feeling somewhat refreshed - another week should do it ;-).

Its been a rocket of a year, heres a few thinks i can think of off the top of my head:

  • The year that i completed the most amount of weddings I’ve ever done. I haven’t counted but ill get back to you on that one.

  • Many new colours and launches from Biosculpture - there is a ridiculous amount of choice and I’m somewhat sorry about that haha! More sorry about my back carrying it all around but needs must!

  • The continued loyalty of familiar faces across the nail desk - THANKYOU for choosing me!! ILY.

  • Finally getting my mobile kit how i want it - thanks Zuca for making my life easier whilst I’m travelling across the county!

  • Adapting to the mask wearing and the extra cleaning!

  • Visiting lots of new wedding venues and meeting many new suppliers in the wedding industry! Getting very excited for next year - the dates are filling fast!

  • Seeing nail art take a turn for a more classic and paired back approach. Totally here for that but i still LOVE the crazy colours and all sorts of designs you guys get me doing. Keep it coming guys!

New Years Resolution's: Concentrate on that work/life/family balance, Read More & Exercise More!

Thank you to all my lovely loyal clients you had me laugh and cry but i wouldn’t have it any other way! Looking forward to seeing you all in January.

& to all my lovely brides who i had the pleasure of helping get ready - thanks for choosing me - if you’ve booked in for nails then ill see you soon too x

Here’s to 2021, its been wild and a year that literally went out with a bang - looking forward to you 2022 .. i think…

What is an Elim Pedicure?

hannah hennessy

I have recently added Elim Medi Heel to my service list and to tell you that i am excited about this is an understatement. Being a mobile salon has its restrictions and for me pedicures have always been one of them. Pedicures to me scream luxury but they also need to achieve results. Your bog standard scrub and soak pedicure has gone, it was nice but i was happy to bye bye to it. When it was announced that Elim was to be joining under the umbrella which is Re:new beauty, i couldn’t contain my excitement; its just what i was looking for.

I’ve always enjoyed the results that can be achieved from a pedicure and its not only about the painting of toes and neatening of nails but the overall health of the feet. Foot care is important ok, take care of those feet! Until Elim arrived it was a hard old slog.

Elim Social Assets Sq.jpg

Elim is a medical grade pedicure treatment which uses state of the art ingredients to remove hard skin and calluses from the feet. The beautiful packaging is a nice added bonus.

Out with the Old, in with the New

A Facial for your feet is how the treatment is described, and what a bloody good description that it! Traditional methods, (the ones i was taught at college) such as harsh granular scrubs, filing and blading have dominated the industry from centuries.

An interesting fact: The action of filing and blading sends a message of trauma to our brain which results in the overproduction and excessive build up of hard skin; formation of calluses. The cells are basically trying to repair the “damage” not knowing that your trying to get rid of those nasty hard heels.

As you may know from the skincare side of things, we are all engrossed in new ways to approach skin health; AHA’s and BHA’s. These acids have actually always been in our products but due to the recent media coverage over the past few years we are much more knowing about them and how they work. We also want it ALL!

The Medi Heel Peeling systems offers a chemical alkaline peel which offers a much safer and more efficient method thereby enhancing the overall treatment experience that is a Pedicure.

The Heel Peel

The heel peel is carried out at the very beginning of the treatment. During which the pH of the skin is altered using “The Callus Tonic”. The tonic breaks down protein bonds that bind together the dead cells of the epidermis (callused skin). The main ingredient is Sodium Hydroxide and this is left on for a maximum of 10 minutes.

Once your 10 minutes are up the removal process begins using a scraper and a pumice. The scraper removes most whilst the pumice gently buffs and tidies with minimum pressure.

Once the removal process has been completed on both feet the “pH Neutraliser” will be applied to all areas where the tonic has touched the skin. This is an important step as it rebalances the pH and helps maintain the soft supple heels post treatment. The pH Neutraliser contains Citric acid and Aloe Vera.

If your feet are somewhat over due a pedicure then please note that it may take more than 1 appointment to remove all callused areas. We will chat about this pre and post treatment so that you have a realistic overview of what can be achieved using this treatment. The treatment can be carried out fortnightly and there are products you can use to maintain your pedicure at home.

Next Steps

There are two pedicures to choose from; the express and the luxury.

The express goes as far as the heel peel, which is followed up with the Foot Perfector; a unique balm made up of a gel powder formula that ensures nourished and protected feet with a non-slip finish.

But if you want a real special treat then go all the way with the Luxury Elim Pedicure. Let me tell you whats included.

Alpha Hydroxy Acid Foot Exfoliant - Containing Lactic acid, Glycolic acid, Jojba beads and collaged this wondrous product exfoliates, gently peels and hydrates the feet and lower legs leaving them soft and smooth in appearance.

Elim’s commitment to promoting a clean and healthy environment for ocean life means that they do not use plastics microbeads in their products. AMAZING!

Elim product shot 3.jpg

Ulra Mud - Oh wow this product. You can in fact use this externally all over the body, and for feet it is exceptional to say the least. A deep cleansing, rich clay mask formulated with 40 ingredients designed to detoxify, purify, protect, cleanse and hydrate. Key ingredients include Volcanic Ash, Honey (sourced from a sustainable bee farm in the western cape of South Africa), Maca Root, Arnica and Ginger. Applied with a brush all over the feet and ankles. Feet can be wrapped in cling film and popped in heated boots for an extra dose of intensity.

Spa Additive - To wash away the mask feet are then soaked in Spa Additive which is a natural antiseptic foot soak formulated to target fungal concerns and bacteria causing foot odour. Key ingredients are Tea tree, Rosemary, Geranium and Sodium Sesquicarbonate (salt crystals).

Foot Perfector is then applied and massaged to the feet and lower legs. This product contains a powerful humectant to maintain hydration, treat dry cracked feet and provide a gel powder finish.

Cuticle MD - Not forgetting those nails, cuticle oil is applied and left to soak in. This oil is antibacterial and is a blend of 10 oils containing a blend of citrus and calendula oils and arnica extract.

Gold Spritz - Finishing your treatment off with a generous spritz of GOLD! Because why the heck not. A daily indulgence of radiance to the legs, body, arms and hair! This gorgeous dry oil smells absolute divine which is sourced from the Grasse Region in France. How Fancy!

Biosculpture Gel Toes or Nail Varnish + Cutcile work, shaping and filing are all included in the treatment too.

So there you have it the new fancy pants pedicure that is available to you now (or from April 12th, fingers crossed) in the comfort of your own home. The treatment is carried out on a beauty couch, i will need some space and 10 minutes to set up. #

The express elim takes around 20 minutes, you could add this on to your facial appointment or it could be done during the soak off of your gel manicure. The choice is yours. The luxury can take up to 60 minutes.

Perfect for brides to be, holiday makers, friends, mums, aunties, you can even purchase vouchers too to give the gift of a pedicure.

If you would like more information or would like to book in then please send me a message here.

Read more below.

The Cleansing Lotion

Cleanses, Hydrates & Purifies

A creamy lotion packed with nourishing Organic Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Sweet Almond Oil and Meadowfoam Seed Oil. A simple vegan formula which can be used as your first and second cleanse AM and PM.

Coconut Oil is a highly moisturising ingredient known to help repair the the skins natural barrier function and retain the moisture level in the skin.

Shea Butter nourishes the skin with vitamins A & E which are essential to keep skin clear and healthy.

Sweet Almond Oil contains a rich source of skin replenishing ingredients including triglycerides and several fatty acids.

Meadowfoam Seed Oil naturally helps skin effectively form a barrier to lock in moisture and deliver nutrients deep in to your epidermis.

The Cleansing Balm

Cleanses, Hydrates & Calms

Scented with Rose Geranium Essential Oil, one of my favourite scents, this luxurious balm deeply cleanses and helps to remove any negative traces left behind from pollution. Use as a first and/or second cleanse in the PM for a perfect de-stressing treatment. Massage on to the skin for a few minutes before rinsing off with a flannel. If your using to remove makeup do a second cleanse afterwards to ensure that your cleansing the skin fully and removing all traces of makeup and oil.

Inca Inchi Oil hydrates and nourishes the skin helping to restructure and repair. Helps to maintain youthfulness and elasticity in the skin.

Grapeseed oil. A light moisturiser which is easily absorbed by the skin.

Rose Geranium Essential Oil helps to improve the skins ability to heal itself.

Avocado Oil moisturises and nourishes helping to calm dry, itchy and irritated skin. High in vitamin e, potassium and lecithin.

Also contains Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Sweet Almond Oil and Shea Butter.

The Toning Solution

Cools, Hydrates & Rebalances

Infused with Rose water fragrance this gentle mist helps to brighten, hydrate and revitalise the skin after cleansing. Mists and hydrating toners have since become very popular and they are absolutely essential in helping to boost the moisture levels in the skin. You can use this product under or over makeup, AM and PM. I would advise taking it with you in your back to spritz throughout the day to help replenish lost moisture through out the day, especially with the current situation with masks at the moment. I recommend this product to every customer because its normally the step that they’re missing in their skincare routine.

Rose Water is moisturising and hydrating.

Aloe Vera Concentrate Powder is well known for its healing and rejuvenating properties. It hydrates, soothes in addition to improving skin texture.

White Tea Leaf Tannins are extracts derived from white tea which is reported to have powerful anti-microbial and anti inflammatory characteristics.

Sodium Hyaluronate plumps and hydrates the skin.

Amino Acid Derivatives have demonstrated to improve skin clarity and even skin tone. With skin brightening properties they also help to condition the skin and regulate the pH.

The Facial Polish

Exfoliates, Brightens & Purifies

A manual scrub using Mineral Volcanic Pumice. This product is gritty and is sure to remove any dead skin cells laying on the surface. If your super sensitive i would go gentle on this product. The exfoliation step of your routine, be that liquid or manual is vital to ensure the optimum absorption of any following skin care products such as serums and oils, which are normally the expensive part of your routine as these are the stars of the show which actually aim to treat and improve the skin.

Vegan formula. Use AM or PM

Mineral Volcanic Pumice from volcanic rocks helps to remove dead skin cells smoothing and purifying the skins surface.

Pomegranate Enzymes aid in exfoliating, smoothing and even the skin texture.

Pathenol Vitamin B5 deeply hydrates and and moisturises new skin.

Fruit Acid Blend - Bilberry, Sugar cane, sugar maple, orange and lemon all contain naturally occurring alpha hydroxy acids. This concentrated blend safely exfoliates dead skin cells and stimulates skin cell renewal which in turn promotes skin radiance.

Also contains Shea Butter and Organic Coconut Oil.

The Clay Mask

Detoxifies, Brightens & Purifies

Oh how i love the scent of this gorgeous mask. My skin seems to drink this product as it almost disappears with a thin layer which is why i like to apply this in a thick layer allowing optimum results from this gorgeous product. Use after you have double cleansed, toned and exfoliated in the AM or PM.

The detoxifying formula absorbs excess toxins, sebum, impurities and traces of pollution. This mask promotes a clean and healthy glowing complexion.

Chia Seed Extract is anti inflammatory helping to fight dehydration, skin irritation and blemishes.

Kaolin is a natural mineral which helps to stimulate circulation whilst gently exfoliating and cleansing.

Guava Extract helps to slow the signs or aging. Rich in vitamin A, B and C.

Grapefruit Extract has the ability to tone the skin and works as an astringent for oil and acne prone complexions.

Bentonite Clay absorbs impurities and toxins from the skin by drawing excess oils to the surface for easy removal.

Illite Clay or French Green Illite Clayis prized for its clarifying, toning and detoxifying abilities.

The Chemical Peel

Smooths, Brightens & Renews

Use this product as your exfoliating toner step after your have double cleansed in the PM. You wont need to use this every night but once or twice a week will do.

10% Glycolic Acid and 5% Fruit acids makes up this liquid exfoliator. On going use will result in a more even skin tone. Vegan Formula, use in the PM. When using products with Glycolic Acid the safety of your skin in the sunlight is compromised due to the level of exfoliation. Ensure that you use SPF 50 in your skin routine every day to protect your skin against unwanted damage.

Glycolic Acid effectively removes dead skin cellsto reveal brighter skin.

Fruit Acid Blend of Bilberry, Sugar cane, sugar maple, orange and Lemon.

Allantoin acts as a skin protectant with soothing and anti-irritating properties.

White Willow Bark Extract Powder. A natural gentle skin exfoliant.

The Miracle Mask

Brightens, Hydrates & Rebalances

This mask is exactly what is says; a miracle. I tend to give samples of this to everyone because i think everyone should try it. Ive tried other Honey masks before and i’ve always found them hard to remove as they’re so sticky. But this, this mask is amazing. If i’ve ever had a bad skin day, week or month using this regularly i instantly see a difference, reduced redness, improved texture, a soft blanket for the skin.

Natural Manuka Honey helps to retain moisture with anti inflammatory and antioxidant benefits helping the skin to instantly appear brighter and blemish free.

You can also use this product as rich day cream or night cream.

Amino Acids helps to boost the skins moisture levels.

DL-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate is a natural skin conditioning ingredient and antioxidant.

Bisabolol s a natural and powerful remedy for sensitive skin and irritated skin.

Oat Kernel Oil is a natural antioxidant, anti inflammatory and anti-irritant which makes it excellent for anti ageing.

Chicory Root Extract is a natural prebiotic that reblances the skin natural bacteria (microbiota) and provides skin conditioning.

The Retinol Serum

Reduces Fine Lines, Boosts Collagen, Brightens Skin

Everyone is going crazy for Retinol at the moment, here’s why. Retinol helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with ongoing use. It stimulates collagen production, whilst boosting radiance, luminosity and creating a smooth complexion with a youthful even tone. Sounds too good to be true right, but added to your routine and used carefully and in the right way be sure to see some results.

This retinol serum contains 0.3%. With first use of any retinol use only 1-2 times a week and gradually increase to daily use as your skin adjusts. Avoid contact near eyes and nose and dont use with any other retinol product. Vegan formula, use in the PM.

Pure Retinol. This formula contains 0.3% pure retinol. Proven to be more effective in anti ageing than other commonly used retinol derivatives or esters.

Kakadu Plum helps to provide visible wrinkle production and skin luminosity. Kakadu plum energizes dull skin and improves radiance and luminosity, reducing skin redness and improves overall skin tone.

Pentavitin ensures instant deep lasting hydration.

The Facial Oil

Hydrates, Regenerates & Relaxes

This 100& natural oil contains a blend of 5 botanical lipids and natural rosehip seed oil. Vegan formula, use AM & PM.

Rosehip Seed Oil is intensely hydrating and helps to nourish and rejuvenate and naturally brighten the skin.

Sweet White Lupin Seed Extract increases the elasticity of the skin, derived from the seeds of white lupins.

Also contains Sweet Almond Oil, Baobab Oil, Crambe Oil, and Olive Squalane.

The Day Cream

Anti-Pollution, SPF 30

The Eye Cream

SPF 15, Lifitng & Smoothing

A mix of marine and plant extracts help to immediately lift and smooth the area. Coloursoft smf helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines through a skin bluring effect.

Contains Marine Bamboo, Minilkara Multinervis Leaf Extract (improves skin firmness and elasticity), Ginseng and Gynostemma Pentaphyllum Extract (helps to maintain healthy skin by supplying nutrients to aged and damaged cells.

So that’s it for this lovely collection. If you where interested in purchasing any of the products or booking in for a facial please contact me here.

Are you missing nail art?

hannah hennessy

processed_IMG_20210215_161812.jpg

I know I am! At least I’m missing creating fancy nails for my lovely clients. It seems to me a bit cruel to keep showing you my nails all gelled and manicured so I thought i’d show you a very simple nail art idea, with nail polish, to keep you going untill we meet again one day.

Ive actually taken my gel off now and I havnt worn any for about a week. My nails are actually doing really well and i’m quite surprised to be honest that Im enjoying not having anything on them. That being said I will be putting them back on when we eventually get back to work.

Here’s the deets:

What you need is any nail polish you have at home and a pencil/curvy grip or dotting tool if you have them. I used Seaweed base coat (treatment base coat) and Knights Armour Gemini Polish to create mine but you could do this in so many different colour ways.

The way i’ve done mine makes for a long lasting manicure because the base is sheer you can’t notice the chipping. The dot is at the bottom of the nail and with a good layer of shiny or matte top coat you could get a week out of your DIY mani.

1. Use nail polish remover to remove any oil/old polish from the nail plate.

2. Push back your cuticles, shape and buff your nails if needed.

3. Apply base coat. You can skip to step 5 if your using this as your base.

4. Apply your colour coat and wait to dry until you can touch it with out transfer.

5. Use your desired dotting tool to pick up some colour from the brush of the polish. There's no need to decant, just take it straight from the bottle. Dot each nail and wait to dry. You will need a contrasting colour dot if you’ve applied a colour on the base.

6. Once dry apply your top coat. It’s as simple as that.

Enjoy and let me know if you give it a go.

At Home Manicure

hannah hennessy

Lock down? Fancy a break in between your gel manicure appointment? Work doesn’t allow you to wear gel? Here’s a little step by step routine for your at home manicure.

processed_IMG_20210213_154355.jpg

1.

cuticles

Pushing back your cuticles regularly stimulates nail growth, keeps cuticles at bay and makes for neat tidy nail beds.

For my and my clients nails i use Doris from Navy Professional. This tool is gentle enough for non-professionals to use. The smooth edge allows for gentle maintenance of the cuticles and with little to no pressure this too does all the work for you.

A rubber hoof stick from your local boots or a woodstick tipped with cotton wool will also work perfectly.

Leave any cutting or trimming of your cuticles to your manicurist to avoid any accidental damage to your nail beds or cuticles. You want to avoid cutting any living tissue and leaving your nails open to infection. Just stick with the push back.

Another useful tool which is gentle enough to use and pretty old is a pumice stone. This can be used as gentle exfoliator to lift any stubborn dead cuticle on your nail plate which may be in the way when you come to panting.

2. File

Unless your nails can take the length it’s best to keep your nails short and neat with rounded corners to avoid catching and tearing the nail low. A simple emery board will do perfectly.

processed_IMG_20210213_153416.jpg

3.Exfoliate

Remember to include the skin on your hands too. Exfoliating your skin, nails and nail beds helps to lift dead skin cells and helps to brighten. Removing dead skin cells allows for your next lot of products to soak in.

A few hand and nail exfoliants that I love are:

Kiwi Scrub Biosculpture

Elim Hydro Thermal Peel

Body Shop Scrub in Oil

The White Company Wild Mint Hand Scrub

4. Adding moisture

Hand Masks, Moisturiser & Cuticle Oils.

Hands Masks: Weekly (make it a sunday treat)

Moisturisers & Oils: Daily (everytime you wash your hands)

Applying hand masks dont need to be time consuming. Weleda Skin food is a gorgeously rich thick cream that can be squeezed straight out of the tube and left to soak in whislst your watching telly. This step helps to lock in the moisture; add it to your weekly routine. I also love the Elim Ultra Mud, i apply with a brush and it can be used all over the body too.

Oil & Moisturise

This step is essential every day if you want to banish those hard bits of skin that catch on your jumpers. With all the extra hand washing, sanitising, cold weather and central heating your skin is zapped of moisture. So if your skin and nails are not what they used to be try with this first, replenish the moisture daily. I’ve listed a few products below.

Biosculpture Almond Cuticle Oil

Biosculpture Vitamin dose

Navy Pro Cuticle Balm

NAF Stuff Scented Oil Pens

Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream

Dr. Pawpaw Multi Purpose Balm

Weleda Skin Food

5. Apply a Treatment base coat

Once your hands and nails have soaked in the moisture you can apply a nourishing base coat to add a little extra dose of vitamins and healthy sheen to the nails.

Firstly remove any oils from the nail bed before you paint. Use something nourishing and not stripping like dior Dissolvant Abricot.

There’s many great nourishing treatment base coats on the market. I love Biosculpture its what i use on my clients and from which i continue to see great results.

Lavender Base - great for damaged nails and a beautiful lilac hue.

Volcanic Base - perfect for healthy but thin nails which need strengthening.

Seaweed Calcium Base (pictured) - for dry brittle nails, increases the suppleness of hard nails.

Oxycoat - antioxidant for the nails and helps to stimulate nail growth. (an underdog if you ask me).

Buy them all here.

Choosing the right red

hannah hennessy

Choosing the right shade of red nail polish can be a tricky one but here’s a tip for you.

It’s all down to the undertone of your skin. There are three different catagories you could fall in too. Cool, Warm or Neutral.

Here’s what you need to know in three simple steps:

  1. Look at your wrists. What colour are your veins?

    Green - Warm undertone

    Blue - Cool undertone

If your seeing Teal your most likely Neutral, lucky you!

(Green Veins you say? Don’t worry your not weird your veins arnt actually green, they just appear green through the yellow/warm tones in your skin, cool huh?)

  2. Gold or Silver jewellery?

Try not to think about which one you like better but which one compliments your skin tone.

Does Silver make your skin look radient and gold sallow? Cool Undertone.

Does Gold make your skin glow but silver dull? Warm undertone.

Try to put your personal preferences aside with this one. Pop a gold bracelet on one arm, a silver on the other, which one looks better?

  3. Burn or Tan?

Generally if your a cool undertone you tend to burn very easily. Where as warmer skin tones bronze up in the sun fairly easily.

It’s easy to assume that all fair skin is cool toned and dark skin is warm. It is possible for a dark skin to have a cool undertone and a fair skin to be warm.

I love a red nail polish but choosing the wrong one makes me want to take it off immediately. I tested out 2 different red nail varnishes, one cool toned and one warm toned. See if you can see the difference.

Left Pillar Box Red. Warm orangy toned red. Right Real Red. Cool blue red.

Left Pillar Box Red. Warm orangy toned red.

Right Real Red. Cool blue red.

About me: I am fair skin, burn easily, brunette hair and green eyes. My veins are blue. I am most definitely a cool undertone and I much prefer the right photo - Real Red.

Now this would apply to a Lipstick too. A blue toned red lip would flatter me much more than an orange red.

So next time your choosing a red varnish or lip, check your veins first.

Cya, 2020

hannah hennessy

Dear 2020

Where to start. What a new experience you have been. The rollercoaster that just keeps on giving. For the most part you felt like a dream.

You have made me thankful for so many things. Not that I wasn't thankful or greatful before you but you've made me relax and have given me time to think.

March 2020 you where a surge of uncertainty and pensive sadness. You ripped out my heart and tested how strong I was without it. Learning how to listen to my emotions and feelings was new for me. I see it as a new personal skill and I make better choices now, thanks to you.

By April and May we where rewarded with glorious sunshine and mountains of family time. I thankyou so much for this. We've never been together so much as this year.

Many phone calls where made to loved ones and friends. Sometimes with uncontrollable tears but mostly with happiness. You've helped me make more room in my life for family and friends.

I won't say too much about the girls as I could go on forever. This time has been so special to me but I now miss them more than ever. This is definitely your fault but I'm feeling better about it now.

This whole writing/feeling thing has never been an interest and I've always wondered how it helped but now I fully understand the powers of writing down your feelings and what your greatful for. I'm doing more of this in 2021.

Going back to work in July we felt back to normal, mostly. To see all my lovely clients and the smiles on their faces to see someone different and take part in a little self care, gave me so much joy just to sit and chat nonsense whilst painting beautiful nails. The girls started school in September which was a shift in emotions again. They're doing amazingly and I'm ok now too.

October and November gave us more nephews and beautiful bundles of joy for friends. And although we've only seen them through facetime we look forward to finally meeting you all one day.

December came and wrecked the joint again but by now we're used to your ways 2020. There's something to be said for 4 year olds and a non-family christmas, they help you cope and momentarily diffuse the sadness.

Going in to 2021 I'm prepared and have suffered enough to know how to deal with the last bit of this hell. Yesterday was a bad day but today is a good day and I think this is something we're used to now, but hopefully not for too much longer.

2020 it's not your fault, just bad timing. It's ok, I forgive you. Thankyou for teaching me new personal skills, how to listen to my emotions and how to raise 2 smart and hilarious, little girls.

We go in to 2021 with me not at work and the girls not at school, but I guess this is something else that's new for me to learn.

Enjoy the girls in this unusual time - before you know it they will be back to school. Remember you secretly wanted more time with them.

Just take one day at a time.

Much love, Han x

Beauty Pro Foot & Callus Peel

hannah hennessy

I've used these and recommended to my clients for the past few years! They're amazing and so simple to use. Simply make your self a cuppa, light a candle, pop the boot on and have a nap!

Over 16 botanical and fruit extracts including Hydroxy acid and Salicylic Acid help to break down the dry and dead skin leaving your feet softer than ever before.

Your skin will naturally shed over the next 7 days, leaving you feeling like some kind of snake and If I've spoken to you about these before then you've probably heard my story of the super scaly feet situation in Tesco. Haha!

I would say the best time to use this product is in the winter because the flaky skin/foot situation can be unsightly in flipflops 😅 however -It's So worth It and you can use them all year round!

90 mins is the maximum amount of time you should leave this mask on and always leave 6 weeks in-between treatments.

Please read the instructions before using and don't walk with the boots on.

If you have hard calloused skin on your feet you will benefit from this mask. Let me know if you've tried them and love them!

Winter Feet

hannah hennessy

"I don't paint my toenails in the winter because they're in boots" 😜 I hear this alot and i get it. Personally I love my toes painted all year round and feel passionate about general foot health.

Not painting your toes is absolutely fine 😉 but! Hard, callused heels and feet are not and it's during the he winter that we tend to forget about our feet. They carry your weight most days and so they deserve a little treat now and then.

Other than regular pedicures (Elim) there's something else you can do to keep on top of those fabulous weight bearing feet of yours.

I've been using these 2 products religiously for a while now, along with regular Elim Pedicures and I'm so happy with the results.

  • The Elim Foot Perfector is a lightweight non slippy moisturiser for your feet.

  • Vitamins B5, C and E nourish the foot while the unique gel-powder helps lock in moisture, ensuring a flawless finish whilst smoothing out fine lines.

  • The Elim MediHeel Foot Perfector nourishes the skin around your heels and aids the natural skin renewal process.

With the pumic you should use this twice weekly in the shower. Once used, wash with water and leave to dry. This particular pumic has a rough side (to use first) and smooth side (second). It can be used and used again so no need to throw away.

Apply moisturiser and cuticle oil to your feet and toenails every nighat - your feet will thank you for it. And you can thank me later ☺️
